Day trip to Daisy Made Farm

An upcoming trip was scheduled with the Supported Internship learners, focussing on developing their independence and employability skills outside the classroom.
In the weeks before the trip, the learners researched and planned their bus routes, meals and activities, including the costing for the day.
All learners travelled from InspireU Lincoln to Daisy Made Farm, using the public bus, which allowed them to build confidence. Upon arriving at their destination, the first order of business was lunch. The learners were encouraged to order their meals independently. This exercise was pivotal in boosting their confidence and communication skills. They were able to ask questions about the menu, practice polite conversation with the staff, and manage their budget.
Next on the agenda was a game of crazy golf. This fun activity allowed them to work on their teamwork and strategic thinking. As they played, they were encouraged to communicate with one another and use their maths skills to update their scores. There was also a dose of healthy competition!
After the golf game, the group headed to a local petting zoo, where they had the chance to meet and feed various animals. To round off the day, the group treated themselves to an ice cream. As they enjoyed their delicious treats, they reflected on the day's activities, sharing what they learned and enjoyed the most.
Finally, the group made their way home, tired but happy, having successfully navigated public transportation, ordered their meals, engaged in teamwork and experienced the joy of caring for animals. This day out was not just a fun excursion. It was a meaningful step toward fostering independence and supported them develop their employability skills, equipping them with valuable experiences that will serve them well in their future endeavours.
