Observation of learning, teaching, and assessment practices (OTLAs) policy

Performance management and review of OTLAs

OTLA activity is intended to:

  • be developmental
  • cognate with routine supervisions and appraisals

OTLAs outcomes and targets will be owned by the member of staff and their line manager. As part of this process, all members of staff shall maintain a professional learning plan. This plan will:

  • detail personal activity to further develop their learning practices
  • be recorded on a personal OneNote and uploaded to Databridge

The provision manager or senior leader may have concerns regarding the learning experience provided by a member of staff.  This must be evidenced by repeated observations and triangulation with other sources of information (for example, learner feedback or course level data). In such cases, it is advised that the member of staff hold a meeting with their provision manager to discuss accessing the necessary support to develop their practice. This shall be recorded in a record of action.

Review of OTLAs

The quality group committee will:

  • review the OTLAs policy and approaches on an annual basis
  • make recommendations for its development
