InspireU access arrangement policy
Introduction
This policy outlines the procedures and criteria for providing exam access arrangements for candidates aged 16-24. These arrangements are designed to ensure that all candidates have an equal opportunity to demonstrate their abilities in assessments, in compliance with the Equality Act 2010.
Definitions
- access arrangements: pre-examination adjustments for candidates based on evidence of need and normal way of working. Examples include extra time, readers, scribes, and Braille question papers
- reasonable adjustments: modifications made to ensure that candidates with disabilities are not at a substantial disadvantage. These adjustments are unique to the individual and must not compromise the integrity of the assessment
- special consideration: post-examination adjustments to a candidate’s mark or grade to reflect temporary illness, injury, or other indisposition at the time of the assessment
Principles
- access arrangements and reasonable adjustments are intended to meet the specific needs of individual candidates without affecting the integrity of the assessment
- the policy complies with the duty under the Equality Act 2010 to make reasonable adjustments for disabled candidates
- arrangements must be based on evidence of need and reflect the candidate’s normal way of working
Eligibility
Candidates may be eligible for access arrangements if they have:
- special educational needs
- disabilities
- temporary injuries
