Internal verification policy
Purpose and context
Purpose
InspireU is an accredited assessment centre for a wide range of qualifications. It is committed to maintaining a thorough system of quality assurance and control that meets the requirements of each awarding body and qualification type.
The internal verifier (IV), with the support of the exam officer, plays a key role in the management of quality on all courses. They ensure the consistency and standard of assessment decisions. This enables all learners and stakeholders to have confidence in the integrity of courses delivered and qualifications achieved.
This policy provides a standardised approach to internal verification and internal standards moderation, which:
- can be applied to all courses
- is simple to apply
- avoids duplication of effort
- ensures that assessment processes are tracked
- is acceptable to awarding bodies
- supports and encourages good practice
- supports valid, fair and accessible assessment
- supports achievement of the national standards for verification (V1)
Context
This policy and set of procedures will be applied to all courses leading to an externally recognised qualification.
The following are exceptions as they are all marked externally:
- GCSE qualifications
- elements of level 1 and level 2 (Maths, Reading and Writing)
- functional skills
- digital functionals skills
- customer service.
In this context the terms ‘internal verifier’ and ‘internal moderator’ are the same. They require the appointed person to implement quality assurance procedures. This ensures that both internal verification and standards moderation take place.
Internal verification
A process by which:
- assessment decisions and practices are regularly sampled and evaluated
- findings are acted upon to ensure consistency and fairness
Internal standards moderation
All internal assessment must be subject to moderation. This ensures alignment of assessment decisions with required standards.
