Key roles and responsibilities
Head of centre
Responsible for establishment, maintenance and consistency of:
- effective systems for assessment and internal verification
- internal standards moderation
This is across all InspireU sites, and meets awarding body and JCQ requirements.
Senior lead and exam officer
Responsible for the consistent implementation of effective internal verification and internal standards moderation across InspireU. They liaise closely with the head of centre for:
- improved practices
- staff development
- staff training
They will also have the responsibility of acting as lead IV or IVC ensuring that effective systems for assessment, internal verification and internal standards moderation are established as appropriate. This includes:
- identifying personnel
- performance management
- appraisal
- training and development of assessors and verifiers
- allocation of the time-table to carry out the role correctly
Responsibilities include:
- training of assessors and internal verifiers
- monitoring of internal verification processes for all courses
- assurance of internal verification
- standardisation of internal verification procedures
- provision of advice to all stakeholders
- liaison with tutors and provision managers regarding assessment and verification issues
- supporting internal verifiers and internal verifier co-ordinators if appropriate
Internal verifier
Responsibilities include:
- internal auditing of the assessment process
- identifying and ensuring that agreed criteria for choosing and supporting assessors are applied
- carrying out assessment standardisation arrangements
- ensuring effective use of procedures for appeals and complaints
- using internal and external quality assurance measures to enhance provision
- ensuring that assessors have appropriate vocational expertise
- identifying and facilitating the development of assessors
- ensuring standardisation of assessment
- monitoring assessor practice and providing feedback
- checking consistency of assessment
- ensuring assessment practice regarding relationships with candidates
- ensuring assessment practice in relation to:
- health and safety
- environmental protection
- equality
- access criteria
- planning, collating and analysing information on assessment decisions
- agreeing timing and nature of external audits
- liaising with external auditors and providing feedback to assessors
- ensuring external audit decisions are included in internal reviews of procedures
- planning and leading standardisation meetings
