Processing the enquiry

Receipt of Application and Referrals

Upon receipt of an application form and where applicable, an EHCP consultation, the new learner will be invited in for a Support Needs Assessment, (if there are transport issues, this step could be carried out on MS Teams).

The Provision Manager will then invite the new learner to the centre for a Support Needs Assessment (SNA.) Anyone is welcome to support the new learner, including other professionals, parents, and carers. If the new learner declared a criminal conviction on the application form, this meeting will be carried out with the Pastoral Lead present. The lead person for the SNA could be the Provision Manager, Pastoral Lead or Tutor, depending on the course that has been applied for.

The SNA is an opportunity to discuss the new learner’s needs, preferred way of working etc. It is during this meeting that the One Page Profile will be completed/finalised and signed by the learner.

Depending on what is discussed in the SNA, further actions may need to be taken, for example, it may be appropriate to draw up a risk assessment or Positive Support Plan.

The Provision Manager will provide the new learner with a date for their enrolment at the end of the SNA. This is likely to be the closest Monday to the date the SNA has been carried out.

Transport should be discussed as part of the SNA to ensure everything is in place. If transport is required, the SEND team will be involved to arrange transport.

Delays in the process

For EHCP learners there needs to be a named EHCP and funding matrix held before the learner can be given an enrolment date. InspireU cannot move forward until it has received this from the central SEND team and relevant caseworker. If a new member of staff needs to be recruited to provide support, e.g. a dedicated 1:1 LSA, and InspireU do not currently have capacity within its existing staff team, there may be a delay whilst this position is recruited to.

If during the process, InspireU needs further information to support the application, for example, information from a support worker, the application will be paused until InspireU receives all information that is required.

As part of the process, InspireU may write to the last education setting, school, or SENCO for further information around support or a safeguarding issue. The application will be paused until InspireU has all of the relevant information needed to support the new learner.
